Confirmation Program

Alternate Wednesdays at 6:30-8:00
This program is for youth in grades 6-9 who are exploring the Christian faith and asking big questions with their peers.  The confirmation program also includes social and service events that will be scheduled on a rolling basis to align with the availability and interests of the participants.  The Confirmation program is led by Nathan & Pastor Leanne with help from Laura & Morgan.  Please contact nathan@trilliumwaterloo.ca if you’d like your child to participate.

What should youth expect from confirmation?

Confirmation night usually starts off with a quizbowl trivia game.  This is a just-for-fun challenge that gets participants to share what they know (or don’t know) about the topic.  We also incorporate a mix of hands-on activities, skits, and faith discussion. Each week typically includes small group discussion and a chance for youth to read & highlight their own Bible.

What will youth be learning about in the confirmation program?

We use the Head2Heart curriculum from Faith Inkubators.  This program has a foundation in Lutheran theology, but we encourage youth to ask big questions and form their own opinions.  No, you don’t have to be Lutheran to attend. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to participate as small group mentors on a rotating schedule.

What does "Confirmation" mean?

The word confirmation refers to a Lutheran rite of passage in which young people “affirm their baptism” through a public declaration of faith.  Youth are welcome to participate in the confirmation program whether they come from a tradition that practices infant baptism, voluntary baptism, or are new to Christianity.

Do youth have to be baptized to participate?

No. The confirmation process is a program of Christian education designed for youth in grades 6 to 9.  At the end of the program, the youth get to decide for themselves if they would like to be baptized, or if they were baptized as a child, they “affirm their baptism”.  They may also choose not to participate in either of these options. We welcome all youth who are curious to explore faith or who are beginning to ask the ‘big questions’ of life. Families interested in exploring baptism at Trillium should reach out to Pastor Leanne: pastorleanne@trilliumwaterloo.ca
